We ate at 5:30 on a Sunday. We chose it because on line search boasted “Gluten Free.”Restaurant was busy not packed. Hostess was on the phone and did not acknowledge us for several minutes, until a manager came by and sort of apologized, “she's new, do you have a reservation?” .Server was a little slow, and we informed her we had two gluten free and 2 vegetarians at the table. She has no familiarity with the menu. “Do you have gluten free pasta?” “I'll have to ask” “Can you eat soy sauce?” (the correct is no, soy sauce had gluten, though Tamari does not). She took our orders and said” I'll be right back with some bread,” and seemed surprised when we declined. When the gnocci was served to the vegetarians, it had bacon garnish and had to be sent back. The vegetarians ordered pasta to share and salad and she told us that she'd bring them out at the same time. The pasta arrived so late we almost cancelled it, as all the other entrees and salads on the table were eaten before it arrived. Food was overall decent; view was interesting. It is not coastal, however. It overlooks a marsh and river with a cool harbor, but for “coastal kitchen” we expected an ocean coast view. Not recommended for those with special dietary needs.

My family accompanied me to the area while I was on business, and the last night there, we went to the Coastal Kitchen for dinner. Everyone was really impressed with the food. I cannot comment on the bar because they didn't have their license and thus couldn't serve, but to be fair, they warned us about this when we called to make reservations. They seem to be under-staffed with the wait staff, because quite often we had to wait for refills, the check, etc. Other than that, it was a good experience.

I have had their fried shrimp entree several times and enjoyed it. Not this trip, the shrimp were marginal, the oil needed changing. The fries looked and tasted like they had been sitting for a while and the slaw was unmentionable. I don't mind paying a higher price for excellent quality, but the prices are outrageous for practically inedible food. Don't waste your time here, there are so many places in the Island that are far superior. Highly recommend you skip the Coastal Kitchen

Always a must for us when we visit St. Simons Island. We've been dining here for years. Perhaps the best, freshest, fried shrimps in the area. Great tartar sauce. We even love the hush puppies. Lunch or dinner at Coastal Kitchen is a treat.

Shrimp and grits, shrimp and scallops with grits, the special flounder with grits and seared tuna all excellent. Raw oysters were served quickly and expertly. Excellent dinner over 4th of July weekend.

I had heard excellent things about this place and was excited to try it out. The man who initially sat us was wonderful. We had a table with an excellent view of the boats, and the weather was perfect. It took over 20 minutes for a server to come to our table, we were never offered bread. The server was not rude but seemed rushed and in genuine. The lobster nachos were great, but the ahi and rice were overly salty. I think we came on an off night and I'd like to try it another time.
